Cambodia is a small country with a big history, worth to explore destination in Southeast Asia. Although most visitors decide to visit Angkor Wat near Siem Reap only, we strongly suggest you to spend some time in the capital city Phnom Penh, too.
Phnom Penh is situated at the confluence of three rivers, the mighty Mekong, the Bassac and the great Tonle Sap. The vibrant bustling capital city still maintains considerable charm with plenty to see: Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, National Museum, Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, Choeng Ek Killing Fields and Wat Phnom. It exudes a sort of provincial charm and tranquillity with French colonial mansions and tree-lined boulevards amidst monumental Angkorian architecture. This city is so different from the other Asian capitals wich are quite modern. The famous Cambodian hospitality awaits the traveler to the heart of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The city takes its name from the re-known Wat Phnom Daun Penh (nowadays: Wat Phnom or Hill Temple), which was built in 1373 to house five statues of Buddha on a man made hill 27 meters high. These five statues were floating down the Mekong in a Koki tree and an old wealthy widow named Daun Penh (Grandma Penh) saved them and set them up on this very hill for worshiping.
Royal Mekong Boutique Hotel is in the best location surrounded by landmarks as Royal Palace, National Museum, Independent Monument, the Mekong River Bank, Restaurants, KFC, and Supermarkets within a walking distance. We enjoyed to swim in the pool and sit next to it after our all day tour around in the town. The refreshing deep blue colored water gave back our energy! We suggest you to try it as the weather is often very hot.The pool is ideal place for a night chatting. Beer and other beverages are available on site. We like the colorful night lightning very well! It makes as simply happy and gives good feelings. Other hotels should use similar lights in the evening. The building is very interesting for example the European travelers because it has an open structure and the air can circulate from the entrance to the 2nd floor through the hall. The tasteful decoration is standard in the entire property. The beautiful local paintings brings the Cambodian countryside into the city.
There are several public areas to sit down for guest with bigger companionship. The city view is very nice from the chairs placed on the 2nd floor. We liked so much the breakfast served by always ready to help staff, at the little restaurant enclosed by the garden and fish pond on the ground floor. Their pancake is very delicious and it totally made our good day – after the omelette – before the fresh fruit! Each room is uniquely designed and gives a completely different feeling from other hotels. Their size is huge, we had plenty of space in the spacious room for all our luggage and clothes to hang out. This is very strong and good point! Can you believe that this hotel is independent from the world-famous big hotel chains? We are impressed by the bed, the cleanness and the complimentary room facilities such as daily breakfast, in-room safe, free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea making facility, 32″ flat screen TV.The bathroom in the junior suite is simply huge with a separate shower, separate bathtub, and built-in accessories. The double junior suite is warmly inviting to spend a good night and have a relaxing sleep. The towels formed in several shapes are representing a very high quality standard, and definitely give the feeling of a special place for special guests. Well done!
The competition is strong on the tourism market but the Royal Mekong Boutique Hotel definitely has some strong points compare to other accommodations and this fact means a long-range competitive edge for this hotel. The pool facilities are on the average level, but the spacious and stylish rooms, the hospitality of the staff and the management is high above the usual level. It was a pleasure to stay there!
