Thermae Bath Spa is a unique blend of old and new. It combines the best of the 18th century spa building with the contemporary architecture from Sir Nicholas Grimshaw.
It offers something more for the visitors! Something special what Celts and Romans did nearly 2000 years ago: this is the age-old tradition. Thermae Bath Spa offers the chance to relax in the suite of aroma steam rooms, bathe in the natural thermal waters of the indoor Minerva Bath with its flowing curves and grand columns and enjoy the spectacular views of the city and surrounding hills from the iconic open-air rooftop pool. We saw only one picture about the rooftop pool and we definitely wanted to visit the bath. It is a massive bucketlist element for everybody who likes the natural hot water, the beautiful surrounding and the high quality services. The water contains over 42 minerals and trace elements. The natural thermal springs in Bath were first discovered by Prince Bladud around 863BC, who was cured from his skin disease after bathing in the waters. The waters were then enjoyed by the Celts, Romans, Saxons and Georgians and are the constant thread throughout the history of Bath.
Perfect art and engineering from Grimshaw Architects
The stand-alone 18th century Cross Bath is an intimate open-air thermal bath with its own changing facilities and is an alternative to the more extensive spa facilities in the New Royal Bath. Formerly a bathing pool for royalty, the Cross Bath can be hired for exclusive use for groups of up to 12 people. Where the Cross Bath now stands, the Celts revered their goddess of healing, wisdom and fertility , Sul, in whose honour the Romans named their spa town, Aquae Sulis (Waters of Sul). The Cross Spring is now recognised as an official sacred site.
“Water is the ultimate life. Pure as crystal, the divine influx”
Minerva Bath is the best place to have some fun during the relaxation.
Named after the Roman Goddess of Health & Wisdom, this is the largest of the thermal baths. Distinguished by flowing curves and grand columns, the thermal waters are complemented by an invigorating massage jet, whirlpool and lazy river.
Aroma Steam Rooms
Breathe in the soothing vapours of the steam rooms, each of which is infused with an aromatic essence such as lotus flower or eucalyptus mint. A central ‘waterfall’ shower, interspersed with fibre optic lighting, provides a variety of sensations from the lightest misting of water to an invigorating tropical shower.
Hot Stones Vichy Hydro Massage
a stone, oil and water ritual using the latest in hydro massage techniques. Following a full body exfoliation and cleanse with a nourishing aromatherapy bath oil and water ritual, enjoy a hot stone massage on your legs and back – a truly sensory experience.
Watsu
this signature treatment is performed in the natural thermal waters of the historic Hot Bath. A specially trained therapist gently supports, stretches and guides your body through a series of flowing movements in the warm, mineral-rich waters. Combining elements of shiatsu massage and acupressure, your body moves freely and is nurtured into a soothing state of relaxation – a truly uplifting experience.
Open-air Rooftop Pool
By day and by night, enjoy spectacular views over the City of Bath and surrounding hills. The naturally warm, mineral-rich waters are enhanced by air seats and bubbling jets.
The New Royal Bath is a fusion of glass, stone, light and water.
